I don't know if it's a new fad to pass negative comments about any changes that happen around us or it's just a basic human nature to be afraid of the change. I can understand the common fear amongst public if it's related to changes in some laws or government etc. But what's with the obsession of calling names and getting pissed off if a developers add a new feature to their social network?
Obviously I am talking about the hottest news this week, Facebook's vanity URLs. People have been calling them imitators for offering what Myspace has been offering since ages. Many other social networking sites allow the same. People are then worried about their privacy (have to be people from US of A) online. What I don't understand is how does a custom name in URL posses a threat to anyone's cyber privacy? Atleast when it's just an optional feature for those who like short addresses.
Vanity URL is a custom short URL that can be shared with your friends and family easily. It is definitely going to help artists, businesses, celebrities and professionals who use facebook to connect with fans and customers.
I can't think of a single reason to hate the idea of vanity URL. Even if you don't want one, you can keep using facebook the way you used to.
Well, Internet gives every mouth an opportunity to shout out loud their random thoughts about random things. And as it is with thoughts, they are often biased and I guess that's the beauty of internet and blogging, it makes different opinions about same thing available to everyone. But lately I've noticed that these days even News is written from a point of view of the journalist. So it often ends up being a point of view rather than being a piece of News.
Somehow, I have this tendency of looking at things from other person's point of view. This helps me in being unbiased about things and this quality (though totally stupid and unpractical) isn't really appreciated by people around me.
So, in order to find few handful of those who struggle with the same disease, here I am, rambling about things that won't make much difference in my life.
